What is ABA Therapy?
It stands for Applied Behavior Analysis. It is simply the application of behavioral principles to everyday situations, that will, over time, increase or decrease targeted behaviors. ABA focuses on applying the understanding of how behavior works to real life situations. Its goal is to increase behaviors that are helpful and decrease behaviors that are harmful or affect learning and independence. ABA is performed in a one on one setting in the home, school, and community environment.
HOME BASED PROGRAM
The home is the most usual everyday environment for your child, which extensive research and experience has shown is the most successful place to deliver behavioral therapy interventions to children and adolescents. We want to make it as suitable as possible for your family´s needs.
Remember that every child is unique, and what works for one child may not work for another. Be patient and flexible, and work closely with your therapist to create a home-based program that is tailored to your child's specific needs.
SCHOOL & COMMUNITY BASED SUPPORT
Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, and other medical health issues have the right to attend a public/private school, and we understand the fear of no one understanding your child. Depending on individual needs, both insurance and school-funded ABA services can be provided in school. Public schools are required to make appropriate accommodations for individuals with special needs including individuals affected by autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, and other medical health issues. ABA program in school can work with teachers to decrease or minimize behaviors that may become problematic in a traditional school setting and that may interfere with learning and classroom day to day activities.
EVALUATION & ASSESSMENTS
One of our BCBA or BCaBA will conduct an evaluation by interviewing the parents, caregivers, teachers and observe your child. The evaluator (BCBA OR BCaBA) will also interact with your child and try different strategies to determine the goals that will be set for your child, based on age, skills, and parent's specific interests. Once the above steps are completed, we gather all the information and design an individualized treatment plan that best suits your child's needs.
PARENTS TRAINING/CAREGIVERS
We at Behavior Change Therapeutics provide direct parent/caregiver coaching to teach parents or caregivers on how to implement the behavior plan at home and in the community. Our team will help you understand your child and give you the strategies to teach your him/her to communicate his/her needs by educating you on understanding the communicative function of the behavior.
